Early Innovators in
Underground Storage

Using salt caverns for underground hydrocarbon storage was a nascent industry in 1946 when Texas Brine was founded as a brine supplier, but company founder and innovator Lloyd Webre Sr. was convinced that it could be a lucrative new business line. Texas Brine leased its first cavern to a storage customer in 1953.

Texas Brine and its related entities create over 15 million barrels of cavern space a year with brine production activities and have over 25 caverns in storage operation. We continually have new caverns available for conversion to storage.

Texas Brine’s first liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) storage cavern was placed into service in 1953. Since then, dozens of additional caverns have been put into a variety of product storage services. Texas Brine and its related entities create over 15 million barrels of cavity space a year with brine production activities. With our brine production rates, we have the capability to meet your storage needs with existing or future caverns.

We have over 72 billion cubic feet of working natural gas capacity; 29 million barrels of hydrocarbon liquids capacity, including Y-grade, ethylene, propylene, and butane; and 7 million barrels of crude capacity leased to our customers.

The operation of storage caverns requires strict oversight and management. United Brine Services Company, LLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Texas Brine, provides technical, construction and field support to Texas Brine and its customers.
